Similarly, in #challenging life situations like an argument, a difficult decision, a big change; #reconnecting to basic cues can help us find our way. Relax the shoulders, soften the jaw, relax the tongue, soften the eyes, and notice the #breath.

Yoga practice can invite us to really explore what

Yoga practice can invite us to really explore what our bodies can tell us. First, we learn to listen to them - ‘oh, that feels bad, maybe I shouldn’t do that even though others in the class are.’ Then, when we pay attention, we begin to hear more and more, unpacking how years of movement patterns have affected the development of our muscles and bones. This awareness can lead us to designing ways to reinvent ourselves. I’ve been working together with @mindynagel at @collegehillppt who knows functional anatomy so well to uncover ways to do just this.

I did this drawing while remembering what it felt like to hold my son who has profound cerebral palsy. While he’s too big to hold like this anymore (17 years old now), this was how I held his body for years - pressing my left shoulder forward to resist the powerful extension of his spine and relax his muscle tone, reshaping my body to be able to bring him comfort.
